Computational Geoscientist

Position Summary

M3 Works is seeking a self-motivated individual to join our team and help expand the snow and hydrologic modeling services that we offer to our clients. The ideal candidate brings experience in a combination of software development, snow hydrology, and fieldwork. We understand that few candidates will have strengths in all of these areas; we also value curiosity, adaptability, and a willingness to grow.

At M3 Works, we are a small, collaborative team with flexible roles, broadly focused on delivering snow modeling products and geoscience software. This position offers the chance to wear multiple hats, learn quickly, and help shape how we consistently apply research driven by operations.

Responsibilities

  • Research and development of model features
  • Operational model execution and evaluation
  • Interfacing with stakeholders and clients about model results
  • Development and use of analysis tools
  • Writing, reviewing, and documentation of Python code
  • Travel 2-4 weeks per year


Desired Qualifications

  • Background in hydrology, geosciences, or atmospheric sciences
  • Experienced in Python
  • Familiarity with snowpack energy dynamics and snow measurement practices
  • Familiarity with Unix, Docker, Git, and GIS
  • Ability to work legally in the United States

Location

M3 Works is based in Boise, Idaho. This is a remote position, so applicant location is flexible within the United States.

We operate our advanced version of iSnobal in support of water resources management, and create practical software solutions for emerging sciences that bridge the gap between research and applications.
